"She deserves a decent training." Kerrigan may have placed too much of an emphasis on the word for it to be entirely coincidental. "I wanted to meet the man. Guess I have." She cocked her head, smiling faintly.
"I'm more than happy to leave that to you," Kerrigan said, still watching him closely. "I've just seen too many teeps ruined by bad teachers not to want to check it out. River's a good kid."
"She is," Anakin agreed easily, "but I'm not training her to become anything. Just to make her life here a little easier. There are a lot of students with untrained or latent powers--it can get noisy."
"...I can guess," Kerrigan said. She really hadn't been halfway into a 'yeah' there, really. "Over where I come from, they're a little more... obsessed with controlling these things. I just don't want that to happen. She seems to think the world of you."
The compliment got her a genuine, if small, smile out of him. "I think the world of her," he said. "She has a ship that she convinced squirrels to make for her that can break atmosphere. Incredible."
He tapped his fingers on the desk. "Obsession with control can be a dangerous path," he said. "Is that why you were concerned she was being properly taught?"
"Yes," Kerrigan said, without hesitation, "It is." She watched the desk for a moment. "In my experience, it ends up in crippling young teeps just for having a mind of their own."
"That's not how I was taught," Anakin said firmly, locking eyes with Kerrigan. "In my galaxy, those who have the gifts River possesses aren't so common not to be treated well. We were nudged along a certain path, but never discouraged from speaking our minds, or asking questions the elders believed to be impertinent."
"Somehow," Kerrigan said, with a faint tinge of dry amusement in her tone, "That puts my mind at ease. I think I've got a relative of yours in my class, too. Same last name?"

He tilted his head. "Should I wonder how I came up in conversation?"

For Anakin, this passed as humor.
"Are you planning on training her?" he asked cautiously.

Anakin smiled. "I was far from an ideal pupil."
