Anakin hadn't slept in a couple of days.

Not that this was so terribly unusual for him since coming back from his galaxy, but today the shadows under his eyes were particularly noticeable.

He was flipping absently through a magazine that was six months old and fighting to stay awake.

The door was open.

Anakin was sucking down the World's Largest Cup of Coffee.

It's Friday, so Aeryn's here as usual, knocking on the doorframe like he shouldn't expect her by now.

Anakin rubbed at his eyes and gave Aeryn a small smile. "Morning."

"Morning," she says back, and frowns. "If you need to sleep that badly, I can knock you out." It would not actually be the first time. Or the second.

Anakin shook his head. "Nightmares," he said shortly. "Mine were so bad they woke Luke up halfway across town. Staying awake's helping him out."

Interesting logic there.

Wow, he has been awake a while. "So you give up sleep entirely? That didn't work out so well when Callisto tried it." And Aeryn had to knock her out.

"Until I know that when I close my eyes, I won't see you coming at me with a Vader mask?" Anakin whispered. "Yes."

Now Anakin was engaged in the fascinating game of "Stare at the Wall."

After his classes, Dean came and knocked on the door.

"Come in!" Anakin called, stifling a yawn.

Dean opened the door. "Is this a bad time?"

"Not at all," Anakin said. "Pull up a chair. How are your father and Zoe?"

Dean smiled briefly. "They're okay. Dad I think is still a little freaked -- hell so am I -- but neither of them or the baby were really hurt."

"Has anyone figured out what happened?" Anakin asked, concerned. "Fires don't just start normally."

Was it OK to drop into his office hours even if she wasn't one of his students? Rikku knocked nervously on the door, hoping that she wasn't interrupting anything important. Clearly she didn't know about the fascinating game of Stare At the Wall.

"Come in," Anakin called.

Rikku opened the door and peeked her head around. "Uh, hi. Are you Professor Skywalker?"

She fussed with her hair. "I, uh. I'm not one of your students or anything. I mean, I'm guessing you knew that. I just ... wanted to come in and talk to you. Uh. If that's okay?"

Anakin smiled. "It's totally fine." He waved a hand towards a chair. "What's your name?"

"I'm Rikku," she said, with a little bounce of a wave. She shut the door behind her and took the seat he gestured to. "I, uh, I'm kinda a friend of Luke's?"

She hoped that wasn't presumptuous, as they'd only talked once or twice, but once you share "I saved the world and it sucked" stories with someone, you were sorta past the "acquaintance" point.

No reason.

Rory arrived after closing the library, and frowned at him in lieu of knocking. "You look awful."

"Thanks," Anakin said wryly. "It's the anti-aging cream Jarod recommended."

"No, seriously, you look like me a couple months ago," she said, stepping in. "I brought you coffee but now I'm not sure I want to give it to you."

"I'll be fine," Anakin insisted. "I just can't close my eyes right now."

"I remember that," she said softly, offering the coffee and a small bag. "It's a poppyseed bagel. Here's hoping you don't have any drug testing for a few days."
