sith_happened: (Anakin: cranky)

Office hours [all day]

Anakin was in his office deciding on the perfect Valentine's Day gift for Rory.

And definitely not plotting how to have a Talk with a lightning-tossing Jedi or neutralizing a student with a penchant for speaking in the third person.

The door was open.

And Karal broke into another huge smile. "Glory, yes."

Karal's expression was an odd mix of sympathy and protectiveness. "I know she looks like Padmé, I know that she may even have been her for a brief time, but she is not Padmé. She is Evey."

A grin tried very hard to escape. "She yelled at you?"

Karal couldn't help a bubbly, vaguely proud feeling. Not that he thought Anakin deserved to be yelled at, but he still intimidated Karal a great deal. "May I ask what about?"

"It does seem to be a subject that you hold very close to your heart," he said carefully, remembering a partciular class. "I imagine Evey has very definite opinions on the subject."

"Vkandis willing you will never have to see it again," he said quietly, and it was partly a prayer.

Karal had to ask the question. "Luke truly wants to give Victor a second chance?" he asked carefully, voice very neutral.

"Redemption is not so simple as that," Karal said, empathising with Anakin's frustration. "Wanting others to be redeemed does not mean they themselves have any desire be."

Though he was quite certain he knew why Luke was so determined.

Karal wasn't sure what to say. Some crimes could not be answered by redemption, only by death or imprisonment. Some people could not be redeemed, there was nothing in them that desired it. "I hope that it never brings him to harm," he finally settled on.

"I can still pray that it will, though." And he would. "At least for him."

He nodded. "It is something I can do," he said quietly. "And I should let you return to what you were doing. Thank you for letting me interrupt you."

Karal ducked his head and returned the smile before turning to leave.
