Anakin didn't really do optimism, which was why he was watching his doorway a little apprehensively.

Force knew what student's relative or wayward Skywalker might walk through it.

An old symphony from Naboo played quietly in the background. Anakin found it soothing.

The hair on the back of his neck stood up, though he didn't know why. "Vergere?" He thought very hard because the name tickled some old memories. "She left on a mission when I was still a Padawan," he said, frowning. "She was considered a bit of a renegade. There were rumors she'd trained with Dooku for a bit, but Dooku trained Qui-Gon, so that doesn't really mean much. She's been dead for at least a century."

He looked at Jacen. "Right?"

"Only fairly recently," Jacen corrected. "She'd been captured by the Vong. She's the reason I escaped. I was just curious."

The bit about how she'd been the one to capture and torture him didn't mean so much to him anymore.

"I don't know," he said. He'd learned not to trust any explanations she'd given him. "She may have been waiting for me."
